In September I was loving the idea of starting a new capsule wardrobe, after having a great experience using this method in the summer for the first time. I wrote a blog post about the steps involved to pull my next capsule together. The weather in the fall season can span from warm to very cool and it was hard to know if I had all the right pieces. My fall capsule wardrobe proved to be more of a challenge than I anticipated, but it was worth it.
Capsule Colour Palette
I made a few edits to my palette as I began to build my fall wardrobe. I dropped grey and replaced milk chocolate with black in my neutral colour selection. I completed my palette with camel, berry, soft white, and chambray blue.
Capsule Pieces
7 bottoms purchased this season from Banana Republic Factory and J.Crew.
4 blazers purchased last season from J.Crew and J.Crew Factory.
4 blouses purchased this season from Banana Republic, J.Crew, and J.Crew Factory.
5 tees and tops - three purchased this season from H&M and Banana Republic Factory. Two short-sleeved hi-low shirts in soft white and ivory (not shown in this photo) were purchased several seasons ago from Ann Taylor Loft and TopShop at Hudson's Bay.
6 layering sweaters - two-toned open cardigan sweater purchased from Aritzia, striped bow tie sweater purchased from J.Crew last season, black open cardigan sweater purchased from Marshalls, poodle sweater purchased from J.Crew Factory, camel and berry sweaters purchased from Banana Republic.
6 shoes - Brown Frye boots hand-me downs from my Mom (lucky me!). Black boots purchased from Nordstrom. Booties purchased last season from Sole Society. Loafers purchased from J.Crew and J.Crew Factory.
Through this process I realized my fall wardrobe was severely lacking after my KonMari tidying. My total wardrobe capsule amounted to 32 pieces, of which I purchased 22. I made sure that almost all my pieces were purchased on sale. The good news is that I will be able to use many of these pieces in my winter capsule wardrobe.
Capsule Outfits
Below are some of the outfit combinations I wore throughout the fall season. When I was feeling a bit bored I reinvented them by pairing the outfit with a different piece of jewelry or adding a scarf. I also was able to mix and match pieces which is the best part of having a coordinated wardrobe! Overall, the pieces in my capsule wardrobe gave me joy and I felt excited about wearing them throughout the season.
