Virgin Tiger Moth
Earlier this month #highparknaturecentre sent out a newsletter with a spotlight about this beauty at #highpark. A few facts they shared about the virgin tiger moth:
"The bold patterns and bright colours of their wings warn birds of their disagreeable taste. Tiger moths have tiny ears on their abdomens to listen for the ultrasonic calls of bats. If a tiger moth hears a bat, they create their own ultrasonic clicks that either startle the bat or jam the bat's echolocation system. If a predator does somehow catch a virgin tiger moth, they will likely spit it out when the moth emits a defensive yellow foam from their thorax. Although the virgin tiger moth is beautiful, it is also a fascinating expert in defense."
